A new story from our series with the most beautiful projects of our customers: an apartment kitchen in the Batistei - Rosetti area, Bucharest, decorated with silver travertine and decorative oriental terrazzo tiles.

Cristina, an IT engineer, knew from the start that the 120 sqm apartment, in a Bauhaus-style building, was perfect for her: "For some years, I've been looking for a house that should represent me, in which to find myself. When I saw it, I realized this was what I wanted. I bought the second floor and the attic, and now we are waiting the authorization for the renovating the roof and the facade of building."

The challenge came when we began to outline this decoration project: the space had to preserve the old charm of the apartment and the building as a whole and at the same time it was ideal for adding elements to the contemporary trends: "The architectural elements had to be preserved, therefore we hired an architect for redecoration. Several ideas were proposed, and I - passionate about the interior design - wanted to keep the vintage elements, such as a clawfoot bathtub, renovated with difficulty. Brass lighting objects have been purchased from an antique shop and the sofa was also custom made."

Cristina continued her research for materials and special articles to match the chosen design concept and discovered PiatraOnline.ro, from where she bought silver travertine and terrazzo tiles, of course by the time she visited the showroom, which made her a strong impression: “It is the most beautiful showroom from what I’ve seen so far, not only from Romania, but also from other European countries I’ve visited" Cristina tells us.

Silver travertine flooring, tumbled

For the kitchen flooring, Cristina selected a special, daring travertine: Silver Travertine, with specific tones of silver grey and cream. The tile size, 40 cm long and 20 cm wide, highlighted the space - small but roomy enough and kind of spacious and the tumbled finish was the right detail at the right place, conveying that timeless air that Cristina was looking for.

The terrazzo tiles came natural: what other type of plate could suggest so beautifully the concept of new versus traditional: three layers of color penetrating deep within the tile, extra-durable material, yet the decoration of the chosen pattern (Terrazzo Mix Pattern) reminds of the oriental tradition, with curved lines and intense colors.

So, after substantial commitment from Cristina, the house became "home": "All these things were possible because of my partner, Adi, with whom I enjoy everything I created; without him I do not think I would have succeeded in bringing them to a good end," Cristina confesses. "I hope we will soon be able to set up the attic, as a space for our three children. All I want is to enjoy together the things we accomplished."
