Following our analysis on the behavior for different types of natural stone, based on environmental factors, the time has come to select the type of stone and shape for paving. Granite is the most popular for heavy-traffic areas. Different size granite cobblestone is used for any type of paving, such as:
- low traffic paving (1.5 and 2.5 cm thickness), for gardens and residential terraces. 2.5 cm thickness granite is recommended.
- medium traffic paving (5 and 7 cm thickness) for commercial (public) or residential areas intended for pedestrian traffic. 5 cm thickness granite is recommended.
- heavy traffic paving (8 and 10 cm thickness) for areas with intense pedestrian traffic / vehicle traffic. 10 cm thickness granite is recommended.
Paving granite is more popular as cobblestone, with sizes ranging from 5 x 5 cm up to 10 x 10 cm and usually 10 x 20 cm granite. Granite bevelled kerbstone displays a stylish finish, complementing the paving with durable elements. For decoration projects of pool coping around swimming pools and low traffic pavings (terraces, access points etc.) different size tiles are recommended. Slate is used for pavings with low, medium or large traffic, excluding auto traffic. Slate cobblestone of 3 - 5 cm, 5 cm or 5 - 8 cm thickness and sizes of 10 x 10 or 20 x 10 cm is suitable for medium, even heavy pedestrian traffic. Slate kerbstone are practical and durable, separating paving edges from similar material.
There are also available pavings and patio flagstone slate slabs, with maximum thickness of 3 cm, intended for pedestrian traffic. For public areas projects, French Pattern or Roman Pattern slate are recommended, if you plant to convey a unique style to your paving. Slate Japanese garden steps highlight the authentic touch for your garden decoration project. Sandstone is another example of paving recommended for heavy traffic, including auto. Benefitting from 5 and 10 cm thickness, sandstone cobblestone paving is similar with granite in terms of durability against environmental factors. For lower traffic areas, polygonal sandstone is recommended.
Marble paving (stone with minimum 3 cm thickness) are used for exterior marble decoration projects and also interior marble decoration projects (flooring), intended for low and medium pedestrian traffic, hardly heavy traffic and excluding auto traffic. There are available tiles with different sizes and standard cobblestone has 10 x 10 cm size. Travertine pavings (3 cm thickness tiles) are also used for paving in low and medium / heavy traffic areas, with variable tile size.
