Joey Marcella – a musician singing marble symphonies

If we were to position the beginnings of civilization, we would associate it with the appearance of marble. It is said that its popularity began to shape at the dawn of ancient Greece and Rome, or even in ancient Egypt. The place and date of birth are unknown, yet we can say with certainty that marble is one of the most beautiful stones. If stone world would had legends with Gods and Goddess, marble would be considered Aphrodite. This stone, often placed on a pedestal in the shape of a face or body, is a poem created by nature that gives greatness to the one who manages to unwrap it.

Beauty is temporary, yet not for marble. Used since the beginnings of the world for constructions which later became the great monuments of the world, white marble especially begins to be introduced in the art field. Sculptures from ancient Greece, still not influenced by the passage of time, were made of marble. In fact, we were wondering if the sculptures are really majestic or if these are majestic because are made of marble. Gradually, with the development of human civilizations the monuments have the same majesty and the marble begins to become the favorite material for home decoration. By maintaining its lyrical shape, marble conveys even today, the space and elegance of the good oled times – depending on mineral deposits, marble gets color.

In search of the classic beauty and of people who see marble with the same eye as we see it, we discover each time their considerable number and we are pleased that this natural stone begins to be perceived at its true value. Ancient sculptures still remain a mystery – we wondered if they were possible back then, what stops us now? Joey Marcella is such a man, able to look at marble and perceive more than a veined natural stone.

First of all, Joey Marcella entered the world of Ssone in 1991 when, together with his father, they started a small business in the family garage. Gradually, through Joey's creativity and energy, they ended up leading a successful company in the stone industry. Although a musician since the age of 10, Joey found a way to combine music notes with processing natural stone and especially white marble. His music passion is expressed by his sculptures’ perfect curve and perfect lines that blend in marble veins.

Although marble is a natural stone and by its definition a tough and durable material, somehow Joey Marcella managed to tame stone’s raw character, transforming it into a work of art. His asset was the connection with the atural stone business, developed alongside his father — he created a context by which he managed to discover the natural stone and see beyond its imperfections. He carved the stone blocks until he managed to obtain two abstract artwork, yet defined by contemporary, perfectly curved lines.

With the help of marble, everything is possible. A material that speaks through every open pore and when shaped by somebody with the ability to understand it, it will transform it into something more spectacular than its initial condition. Joey Marcella gave up his scores and placed on his staff marble blocks for turning them later into symphonies. His vision and the connection with this material from a business point of view helped him understand the way of sculpting natural stone by beauty contained inside it.
